After a crazy first week back, I just thought I'd post a bit of an update.
In Math, we are starting Geometry (angles and shapes) next week. The unit will go pretty quickly because we've covered some of it while working on Measurement. If you have a protractor, it will be used a lot in this unit.
In Science, we are continuing the work on the Experiments. Much of January's science classes will be composed of working on the experiments. Very little work will be done at home. Students should bring in their Materials next week.
Of course, in Technology, both 6B5 and 6B8 were introduced to "Bitstrips" (www.bitstripsforschools.com) which is a website that enables students to create their own comic strips, and share them with the class. I will be assigning activities on bitstrips for students to complete during lab time (for example: design a comic that illustrates your procedure for the experiment). For privacy reasons, I won't post the "codes" on this website, but students should know, or have their class code in their agendas.
Some rules for Bitstrips include
- comics must not be used to bully or insult other students
- when using other people's characters, you must ask their permission
- comments about other comics must be positive in nature
This is the first time I have used bitstrips, I would appreciate any feedback anyone may have. In addition, I generally moderate the site on a daily basis, but if students find anything offensive, they should notify me immediately.
